Your Guide to Organic Gardening

Author: The Gardener

Hello Gardeners!

Welcome to Southern California Organic Gardening. Please visit the “About Me” page to read about who I am and my gardening experience. I really want to share what I have learned in my own organic vegetable garden with others. I also want others to share what they have learned as well. I’m not going to say that my ways are the best ways, but I will tell you what has and what has no worked for me.

I will cover topics such as soil, pests, companion planting, raised beds, fertilizers, compost and other topics that will hopefully peak your interests.

I hope this is both fun and educational so get ready for a great year of gardening.

Onions & Garlic

Onions and garlic are fairly easy to grow, but you have to beware of the gophers because they actually love onions and garlic. Last year I planted over 150 onions and we only got about 10 of them. The gophers got the rest. I have put an end to that with gopher wire and I finished planting my onions on Christmas Eve. I planted 222 (11 rows of 22) in my raised beds and a couple of weeks before that I planted 94 garlic cloves from last year’s harvest. Even though the gophers got some of my garlic, I managed to harvest quite a bit and still have some in storage.
